Kayak

Skimming along
in my kayak,
like a water bug,
making my own waves.
Seeing the world
from the viewpoint
of the quiet pond’s surface
hidden in the woods.

Tossed and turned
down a river tumult.
Hawks scream above!
Battling wits with nature
that doesn’t care if
I’m dumped!

Paddling strong in the ocean
dolphins and sharks surround me,
a wave slaps at me
as pelicans fly by.

Feeling the power
of water beneath
as I glide.
