About Clay Shapers

Jim and Sally Weber, a husband and wife team, live in an old 1825 Dog-trot house with two children, Phillip and Kit, along with Jim's mother,  Dr. Alice Weber.

They work together in their studio with the same clay body, a high-fire white stoneware. They use the same glazes, which Jim makes in their glaze kitchen with great satisfaction and no harmful ingredients in their work. They also use the same kilns to fire their work. But what comes out is as different as any thing that is made of the same material.

Activities
A good deal of travel is part of these busy artisans' lives. Together they do shows throughout the southeast. 'Fayetteville Old Courthouse Show' the third weekend in May, 'Georgia Mountain Fair' in late July at Hiawassee, Ga. and North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh at the 'Village of Yesteryear' in the middle October, where they are regular participant since 1985, and both credit it with being a great influence in their craft and lives. For more information see its web site: www.villageofyesteryear.org

Jim Weber and boys, Phillip and Kit help to demonstrate on the wheel at most of the shows they take part in, to help educate people on the how and ways of mud. While Sally will show you her art and how she uses handbuilding to make vases and plates. They do a local show at Barnesville Buggy days in mid-September helping out the Lamar Arts www.lamararts.org   with the work of their hands in any capacity they can.

Twice a year the Webers open their Kiln and spread out their pots for you to take home a unique gift as you tour their 1825 Historic "dog-trot house" the weekend after Easter, and, just after Thanksgiving, on the first weekend in Dec. Jim will demonstrate on the wheel between his students doing Raku firing (a 45 minute glaze-firing process). Sally shows her decorative pottery. Alice will tell you stories of the "dog-trot" house as you tour the old rooms. A local historian shows how to make wooden hand-carved spoons. This is always a gala event at the Webers. Come and enjoy, and take home a original piece of pottery.

We Love to Dance, a new activity that has added romance to our lives, is dancing together. We get dressed up and dance in Griffin on the first Saturdays of every month (Old English Dances) www.firstsaturdaydancers.com and with the Lamar Arts Dance check on their website for schedule.( www.Lamararts.org )  both of our boys Contra dance and our sisters. It's becoming the thing to do. It is great fun and exercise. Check my journal for dance poems.
